Matías de Roux

Matías de Roux is a composer interested in perception, cognition, and timbre. He holds a bachelor’s degree in music composition from the Pontificia Universidad Javeriana (Bogotá, Colombia) where he studied with Guillermo Gaviria and Juan Antonio Cuellar. Matías also holds a DNSPM and an MA from the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique et de Danse de Paris (CNSMDP) where he studied composition with Frédéric Durieux and electronic music composition with Luis Naón and Yan Maresz.

I am a Guatemalan sociologist, trained in Guatemala and Mexico. My research work has focused on the contemporary Guatemalan composer Joaquín Orellana, mainly on the strong roots of his music in the Guatemalan history of violence, pain, and hope; I have also researched the singing of Q'eqchi' women, exploring their voices not only as memories but also as struggles and challenges. Seare Farhat

Seare Farhat strives to create music that connects a listener to the visceral imagination, energy, and transformation within narrative forms. Starting out his musical endeavors in Afghan folk music, he later built on these valued experiences in the western classical tradition combined with other interests, such as mathematics. Seare has received commissions from the JACK Quartet, IU New Music Ensemble, Metropolitan Youth Symphony, Quintessence Wind Quintet, and the Oberlin Sinfonietta, and served as the young composer-in-residence of the Detroit Chamber Winds and Strings in 2019. He has received honors such as FLUX Quartet's 2019 call for scores and being a finalist for Kaleidoscope Chamber Orchestra's 2019 call for scores. Seare has also held residencies at Avaloch Farm Music Institute in 2022 and with the Gabriela Lena Frank Creative Academy of Music as a Balhest Eeble Composer Fellow for the 2021-23 cycle. Seare holds a B.M. in Composition and B.A. in Mathematics from Oberlin College and Conservatory, a master’s degree from Indiana University Jacobs School of Music, where he held the position of Assistant Director of the New Music Ensemble, and is currently pursuing a D.M.A. at Cornell University studying with Elizabeth Ogonek, Kevin Ernste, and Marianthi Papalexandri-Alexandri​.

Coral Douglas (b. 1999, she/they) is a composer and multi-instrumentalist, focusing on semiotics, perception, and communication.

Guillaume Pirard

With a deep belief in the power and essentiality of collaborative music making, Guillaume Pirard has become a highly respected artist and educator of his generation. Since making his debut with the Orlando Philharmonic, Mr. Pirard has conducted the New York University and Cornell University Orchestras, Ensemble X, OpusIthaca, the Philharmonic of Moravia, the Metamorphosis Chamber Orchestra, the Lviv Philharmonic, the Mannes School of Music Opera, and the Mannes Orchestra. He served as Assistant Conductor for the Buffalo Philharmonic and Ensemble 21. He is currently the Music Director of the Cayuga Chamber Orchestra in Ithaca, New York.

Travis Johns

Travis Johns (b. 1983) is a sound artist residing in Ithaca, NY, whose work includes performance, interactivity, installation, and printmaking, often incorporating eco/bio-based themes and electronic instruments of his own design. As an improviser he performs primarily on electric bass and electronics; with studies in the field conducted under the tutelage of Fred Frith, JoelleLeandre,and Butch Morris, among others. Active in the San Francisco Bay Area experimental music scene for several years, Johns moved to Costa Rica in 2011 where he collaborated extensively with visual artist Paulina Velazquez-Solis on Raro, an immersive sound and sculpture installation that represented Costa Rica in the 2013 Biennial of the Central American Isthmus (BAVIC). Since returning to the states, first to Baltimore and later to Ithaca, he’s continued to apply his trade as a composer, educator, sound artist and instrument builder under the nom de plume of Vaux Flores, with clientele and collaborators ranging from museums, theatre groups and dance troupes to Oscar award-winning film composers and Grammy award-winning musicians.

James Wolter

James Wolter currently serves as director of music at the Protestant Cooperative Ministry of Cornell, adjunct professor at Syracuse teaching basic choral conducting and visiting lecturer at Cornell for choral musicianship skills. As a doctoral student at the Eastman School of Music, he taught conducting to undergraduate and graduate students. In a recent adjunct faculty position for the Hobart and William Smith Colleges, he led the Colleges’ Community Chorus.
