Recital Policies

Honors Project Recitals

Application Schedule

Refer to the Honors Project webpage for the schedule and deadlines. Complete the recital application form (available at the end of the Spring semester of the junior year) and obtain your lesson instructor’s signature. Submit the form to Laurel Gilmer for processing.

Recital Booking Schedule

After the following deadlines, recital dates are booked on a first-come, first-served basis. All recitals must be booked at least two months before the date.

  • Deadline for Fall semester recital applications: end of the first week of the Fall semester
  • Deadline for Spring semester recital applications: end of the first week of the Spring semester (Spring recitals may also be booked in the previous semester.)
  • All recital dates include a dress rehearsal in the performance space with a maximum duration of 60 minutes.

Course Requirements

Register for Music 4501 and Music 4912. 

Recital Support

An Honors Project recital includes the following services.

  • staff support
  • student staff support (e.g., ushers, and recording services in Barnes Hall)
  • department branding on recital programs
  • department list-serv and event calendar advertising
  • funding for up to five hours* with an accompanist (i.e., four rehearsals and the performance) at the department rate (currently $55/hour). Students may pay out-of-pocket for additional hours. The department will provide a list of approved accompanists.

Senior Music Major Recitals

Application Schedule

Complete the recital application form (available at the end of the Spring semester of the junior year) and obtain your lesson instructor’s signature. Submit the form to Laurel Gilmer for processing.

Recital Booking Schedule

  • Deadline for Spring semester recital applications: end of the second week of the Spring semester (Spring recitals may also be booked at the end of the second week of the previous semester.)

A music major senior recital includes the following services.

  • staff support
  • student staff support (e.g., ushers, and recording services in Barnes Hall)
  • department branding on recital programs

Note: The department will not provide financial support for accompanists; however, students may hire one at their discretion.

Senior Music Minor and Studio Recitals

Application Schedule

Complete the recital application form (available at the end of the Spring semester of the junior year) and obtain your lesson instructor’s signature. Submit the form to Laurel Gilmer for processing.

After the following deadlines, recital dates are booked on a first-come, first-served basis.
All recitals must be booked at least two months before the date.

  • Deadline for Fall semester recital applications: end of the third week of the Fall semester
  • Deadline for Spring semester recital applications: end of the third week of the Spring semester
  • All recital dates include a dress rehearsal in the performance space with a maximum duration of 60 minutes.

Note: Barnes or Lincoln Hall bookings will be offered after the Honors/Major deadlines have expired each semester.

Register for Individual Instruction. (Use the course number associated with the appropriate lesson instructor.) 

Recital Support

Recitals in this category are essentially self-service: They will not receive staff support or student staff support (e.g., ushers, recording), and are not listed as department events. 

Faculty sponsors must gain access to the performance space and oversee the events. 

Note: The department will not provide financial support for accompanists; however, students may hire one at their discretion.

Other Recitals (Sophomore-Senior)

Schedule

Complete the recital application form and obtain the lesson instructor’s signature. Submit to Laurel Gilmer for processing.

Recital Booking Schedule

Applications are accepted on a rolling basis. Bookings will begin after the deadlines for the previous recital categories have expired. If Barnes and Lincoln Hall are unavailable, students will be directed to other on-campus venues. Students are responsible for reserving other venues.
