Overview
Born in Seattle, WA., Miles Jefferson Friday is currently pursuing a DMA in music composition at Cornell University. Miles holds a MA in composition from the Eastman School of Music where he studied primarily with Oliver Schneller, Ricardo Zohn-Muldoon and David Liptak and a BM from the Indiana University, Jacobs School of Music. While at Eastman Miles served as the instructor for ‘Notation & Calligraphy’ and ‘the Basics of Orchestration’, was a staff member and lab instructor at the Eastman Audio Research Studios (EARS), taught a comprehensive summer music course in the University of Rochester Pre-College Division, and a summer electronic music class at the Eastman Community Music School. Miles has also spent additional time studying at IRCAM as part of the 2018 and 2014 Manifeste Academies. Miles has also won numerous awards and honors including the ASCAP Morton Gould Young Composer Award, the Wayne Brewster Barlow Prize, the Kuttner String Quartet Composition Competition, a Hutton Honors College Creative Grant, the Robert Avalon Young Composer Competition, and the Dallas Festival of Modern Music Emerging Composer Award.
