Overview
Juan Carlos Ponce Reyes holds a BMus by UNAM (National Autonomous Mexico’s University) in guitar performance, receiving the Gabino Barreda Medal; and an MMus with honors in musicology from the same institution. As a guitarist, he has participated in different contemporary and early music ensembles. As a researcher, he has presented his work at conferences in Mexico, England, and Austria. Additionally, he has been involved in research projects in CENIDIM (Center for Musical Information, Documentation, and Research), and in PoeticaSonora Mx, an interdisciplinary project that seeks to promote, archive, and research sound practices in Mexico with a common interest in the voice. He is currently a Fulbright-García Robles grantee for graduate studies. His interests ranges from contemporary music, history and analysis of musical performance, and media studies, particularly in the Mexican context.
