Jasmine Morris

Overview

Jasmine Morris is a British composer and musician from London. Her compositional approach explores the removal and abstraction of sounds that are typically associated with orchestral instruments. She aims to create soundscapes through the integration of field recordings and found sounds within her instrumental writing. Through her electronic work, she aims to push musical boundaries through signal processing and electronic experimentation. She has been awarded multiple residencies and workshops (LSO Soundhub, Jack Studio, Britten-Pears Young Artist, Dartington Music Festival, Luxembourg Composition Fellow) and prizes (BBC Young Composer of the Year). Her work has been premiered at the Barbican, Aldeburgh Music Festival and King's Place. Further commissions have come from the Riot Ensemble, Solem Quartet, CoMA, and the Viktoria Mullova Ensemble. In 2020, Jasmine collaborated with musician Per Runberg on the album Astrophilia released by the label Nonclassical. She performs frequently as an electronic artist and has played various live sets in venues around the UK (The Rose Hill, Hundred Years Gallery, All is Joy, The Glove That Fits, State 51 conspiracy, The Village Underground.) She holds a Bachelor of Music from the Royal College of Music where she studied with Simon Holt, Kenneth Hesketh and Catherine Kontz. She is beginning a D.M.A at Cornell University studying with Kevin Ernste and Marianthi Papalexandri-Alexandri.
