Overview
Born in Guangdong, China, Chenghao Li (b. 1999, he/him) is a composer who seeks to transcend boundaries of various art forms by striving to weave a rich tapestry from a myriad of influences, including literature, motion pictures, philosophy, video games, and theater arts. His compositions are more than mere sound events; they aspire to be true amalgamations of all art forms. Through the organization of sound materials, Li crafts pieces that breathe and unfold, revealing their potentiality through transformation. Each composition consists of passages and musical gestures linked cohesively; rhapsodic thoughts and audacious techniques that are justified or experimented with; organic expression orchestrated through layers of frequencies in a temporal grid. Li was guided by composer Yvonne Wu, Felipe Lara,
and Sky Macklay, and holds a B.M. in Composition from the Peabody Institute of Music at Johns Hopkins University. Beginning in the fall of 2023, Li will pursue his D.M.A. studies at Cornell University with composers Kevin Ernste, Elizabeth Ogonek, and Marianthi Papalexandri-Alexandri.
