Associate Professor Benjamin Piekut has co-curated the Time:Spans 2019 Festival of contemporary music, to be held August 10–21 in New York City. Produced by The Earle Brown Music Foundation Charitable Trust (EBMF), Time:Spans is dedicated primarily to the presentation of twenty-first century music; its artistic director is Thomas Fichter. Piekut’s section of the festival, After Experimental Music, features newly commissioned works from Okkyung Lee, Matana Roberts, and Deerhoof, as well as performances by Raven Chacon, Olivia Block, the International Contemporary Ensemble, and Bent Duo (David Friend, DMA 2019), who will present a recent work by Ithaca’s Sarah Hennies. Lee’s work will include Ithacan Chris Corsano alongside Ches Smith, Ganavya Doraiswamy, Sara Serpa, and Maeve Gilchrist. Time:Spans will also present sound walks by Christina Kubisch (Germany); a 2-week performance installation by Marino Formenti (Italy); and twelve concerts, performed by outstanding performers and ensembles specializing in new repertoire: Talea Ensemble (NYC), JACK Quartet (NYC), Bozzini Quartet (Montreal), NIKEL (Israel), Yarn/Wire (NYC). These stellar ensembles will perform works by Klaus Lang, Chaya Czernowin, Linda Catlin Smith, and Marina Rosenfeld, among others.
