The Department of Music welcomes two Postdoctoral Associates, each beginning a two-year appointment starting July 1, 2018.
Leila Tayeb, who is receiving her doctorate at Northwestern University this spring, will serve as the Stanford H. Taylor Postdoctoral Associate in Music and Islam in the Contemporary World. Her dissertation, Sonic Upheavals: Music in Libya, 2011-2017, investigates sound practices and quotidian politics in Libya during and after 2011. Leila will teach future courses addressing aspects of music and Islam.
The Active Learning Initiative Postdoctoral Associate in Computational Music Theory Pedagogy will be Mark Gotham. He received his PhD from the University of Cambridge in 2015, and has amassed an impressive record of publications, with considerable experience teaching in a variety of settings. He is also an active conductor and composer. Mark recently collaborated internationally with leaders in digital musicology, including MIT’s Michael Cuthbert, and brings a wealth of technical expertise to complement his theoretical and pedagogical skills. Mark will be working closely with Associate Professor Roger Moseley to develop teaching strategies and technologies for the music theory curriculum while teaching courses in the Materials & Techniques curriculum.
