Music Majors

The department celebrates nine music majors in 2020, including four double majors: Jeremy Baxter, Drake Eshleman (magna cum laude), Marta Faulkner (Mathematics; summa cum laude and distinction in all subjects), Omer Kayhan (Economics), William Kellum, Nina Knight, Charles Morgan (Biological Science), Camilo Reynolds-Dominguez (cum laude), and Catherine Sadoff (Computer Science; cum laude and distinction in all subjects).

Music Minors

Twenty-one students earned a Music Minor this year, demonstrating their commitment to engage with musical theories, materials, and techniques, the study of music in history and culture, and performance while continuing studies in their major. Some were constant members of our ensembles, some were solo performers, and some engaged through musicology or composition.

Student Prizes

The Department of Music congratulates our 2020 prize winners: The Ellen Gussman Adelson Prize, which rewards and encourages outstanding Cornell students excelling in instrumental music performance, went to Alex Coy, Nicholas Robinson, David Specht, and David Zhang.

The John James Blackmore Prize, which assists undergraduate and graduate students studying music, was awarded to Julie Choe, Angela Lee, Charles Morgan, and Andy Sheng.

The H.A. Falconer Memorial Scholarship, which assists talented undergraduates in studying voice, went to Amy Crouch, Jack Liufu, Caroline Lui, and Anna Rodriguez.

The Otto R. Stahl Memorial Award, which honors a graduate composer for excellent work, went to Miles Friday.

The Barbara Troxell Vocal Music Award, for outstanding vocal students who evidence professional musical interests, went to Chiara Alvisi, Drake Eshleman, and Lucy Park.

The Donald J. Grout Memorial Prize, for recognition of exceptional dissertations, went to Matthew Hall, Jordan Musser, and Max Williams.
