Sierra's Trumpet Concerto Premieres 2020; Concerto for Saxophones to Open Tanglewood

Two concertos composed by Professor Roberto Sierra will receive prominent performances in 2020.  Sierra's new trumpet concerto, titled Salseando, will receive its world premiere with the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic, one of its co-commissioners, on January 9, 2020. The São Paulo Symphony Orchestra, the other co-commissioner, will then perform the piece on July 30, 31, and August 1, 2020.  The soloist for all four performances will be world-famous trumpeter Pacho Flores, who plans to record the work for Deutsche Grammophon.  At the prestigious Tanglewood Festival’s Opening Night on July 3, 2020, James Carter will feature as soloist in Prof. Sierra’s Concerto for Saxophones. This work shares a program with William Schuman's New England Triptych, Samuel Barber's Knoxville: Summer of 1915, and George Gershwin's An American in Paris.
