Rachel Horner and Kate Thorpe win Spencer Prize

PhD candidate Rachel Horner has won a Gertrude Spencer Prize with her student, Kate Thorpe (AAP Fine Arts, '26). The John S. Knight Institute for Writing in the Disciplines grants this award in recognition of excellent preparatory work leading to a finished paper. Kate wrote her essay, “Dissolution and Discovery at my First Apple-Fest in Ithaca,” for Rachel’s First-Year Writing Seminar, Music 1701—Sound, Sense, and Ideas: On Display—Carnival, Festival, and Ritual.
