Papalexandri premieres work at Kunstmuseum Basel in Switzerland

Assistant Professor Marianthi Papalexandri-Alexandri will have a new kinetic sound instrumental sculpture titled Untitled VII premiered and exhibited at the Festival ZeitRäume / Biennale for New Music and Architecture in the Kunstmuseum Basel on September 15, 2019. Papalexandri’s sculpture was created in collaboration with artist Pe Lang and is part of a large scale project titled Rohrwerk Fabrique Sonore. The project team includes Swiss-based researchers from the Zurich University of the Arts, composers, musicians and architects-MADE IN.

The project's point of departure is how to integrate architectural making and instrument-making crafts through a pavilion predominantly made out of tubes. The project is commissioned by several organizations including ICST (Institute for Computer Music and Sound Technology), Zurich University of the Arts; SMC (Society of Music Contemporary) Lausanne; ETH Zurich—Department of Architecture, studio-klangraum; Festival ZeitRäume Basel; and EPFL, Swiss Federal Institute of Technology, Lausanne and ProHelvetia. Papalexandri’s work was supported by the Ernst von Siemens Musikstiftung.
