Recent Ph.D. graduate Morton Wan has won a coveted Junior Research Fellowship at Christ Church, Oxford. Among the most competitive early-career appointments out there, this fully funded four-year fellowship, beginning in Fall 2025, provides an outstanding opportunity for Morton to pursue sustained post-doctoral research and publication.
Morton earned his Ph.D. in musicology this past December with a dissertation on the unexpected yet revealing connections of music and finance during the period surrounding the 1720 South Sea Bubble. At Oxford, he will expand this research into a book manuscript while further establishing his profile as a cultural historian of political economy and music. Building on his background as an accomplished keyboardist, he will also begin a new project exploring the global economic networks that drove the dissemination and domestication of keyboard instruments and their music in China, from the seventeenth to the twenty-first century.
