Professor Alejandro Madrid has been elected to the Society for Ethnomusicology’s board of directors as First Vice President. The main duties of the office are to oversee all publications of the Society, coordinate liaisons to other professional societies, and chair board meetings in the absence of the President. The announcement was made during the Society's 64th annual conference, hosted at Indiana University. This announcement follows Madrid's appointment earlier this year to the board of the American Musicological Society. Prof. Madrid offered the following thoughts: "I am happy to serve both, the Society for Ethnomusicology as well as the American Musicological Society– for which I was elected to the board as Member-at-Large earlier this year– at this exciting time in the trajectory of music studies."
