Hicks appointed journal co-editor

Associate Professor Andrew Hicks has been appointed co-editor of a leading journal, the Journal of Musicology, published by University of California Press, effective July 1, 2018. As co-editor, Hicks will work to strengthen the Journal's international role as a leading disciplinary forum that both reflects the breadth of music studies today and shapes the future trajectory of pan-disciplinary humanistic inquiry. His research in the areas of both music and medieval studiesf ocuses on the intellectual history of early musical thought from a cross-disciplinary perspective that embraces philosophical, cosmological, scientific, and grammatical discourse in late antiquity and the Middle Ages. He is the author of Composing the World: Harmony in the Medieval Platonic Cosmos, and he is working on a second book that explores the role of music and hearing in medieval Persian literature. He also currently serves as Associate Editor for The Journal of Medieval Latin and co-chairs the American Musicological Society’s History of Music Theory Study Group.
