Last fall, Lucy Fitz Gibbon and Ryan McCullough were invited to participate in the filming of an episode of a PBS show about Schubert. Great Performances' "Now Hear This," hosted by violinist and conductor Scott Yoo and now in its second season, takes audiences on a tour of Western classical music history, introducing composers in unique ways. They accomplish this by stepping into each composer's historical world; not just in terms of musical material, but in terms of dance traditions, folk melodies, architectural spaces, and more. This episode about Schubert interviews North American performers all Schubert's age or younger. McCullough played the last movement of Sonata No. 19, D. 958, and together the duo performed his setting of "Suleika," D. 720. The episode is available to watch on the Great Performances website until Oct. 23; the Wall Street Journal also covered the episode.
