DMA Candidate Jack Yarbrough Releases Debut Recording

On April 14th, 2025, DMA candidate Jack Yarbrough released his debut recording on the renowned British record label Another Timbre. The album features a performance of composer Timothy McCormack's 65-minute piano solo mine but for its sublimation. Written in 2021 specifically for Jack, the work demands an exacting approach to touch, pacing, and resonance. The result of an entire year of composition, the piece represents a major turning point in McCormack's compositional voice.

Reflecting on the work, McCormack writes: "Mine but for its sublimation, and Jack Yarbrough, changed my music. I was a different person before writing this piece than I was after. By embracing the piano as such, I took risks I never had before, and I felt more in communion with pure form than I had ever felt within a compositional process."

Jack has performed the concert-length work in public on numerous occasions, including at Barnes Hall in the fall of 2022. The years-in-the-making recording was funded by the Cornell Center for Historical Keyboards and Ensemble X, and was recorded and engineered by Ryan Streber at Oktaven Audio.

The cult-favorite record label Another Timbre has released over 200 albums of high-quality experimental music since its inception in 2007. Their limited-run albums often sell out within weeks of release—so grab a copy while you can!
