Cressy receives Cambridge fellowship

Ph.D. candidate Thomas Cressy has been named George Kingsley Roth Research Fellow at Christ’s College, University of Cambridge. This prestigious endowed fellowship recognizes the outstanding potential of an early career historian or anthropologist focusing on South or East Asia.

Under the auspices of this post, Cressy’s plans include undertaking a global history of the musical culture of the Japanese foreign port settlements (Yokohama, Kobe, Nagasaki) in the 19th century: how populations there (Japanese, Chinese, British, American, European) lived and played music together in these spaces of cultural encounter.
