Appert receives 2021 Marcia Herndon Prize

Professor Catherine Appert has received the 2021 Marcia Herndon Prize from the Gender and Sexualities Section of the Society for Ethnomusicology for her article (co-written with Sidra Lawrence) "Ethnomusicology beyond #MeToo: Listening for the Violences of the Field." The article was published in Ethnomusicology, the flagship journal in the field of ethnomusicology.

The award celebrates Marcia Herndon, whose scholarship helped shape the field of ethnomusicology, especially in the areas of gender issues, performance ethnography, and Native American studies. The Society for Ethnomusicology states that the Marcia Herndon Prize honors exceptional ethnomusicological work in gender and sexuality including, but not limited to, works that focus upon lesbian, gay, bisexual, two-spirited, homosexual, transgendered and multiple gender issues and communities.
